It seems that every time we see Martin Kaymer at the top of the leader board on day 1 he’s at top of the leaderboard on day 4 as well. With his second major title under the belt, including a Players Championship win, Kaymer is quickly becoming one of the favourites week on week.
At Pinehurst No. 2 this weekend, the use of a native rough design and lightning fast, heavy rolled greens, birdies were particularly difficult to come by.
With his nearest contender the two time heart transplant patient, Eric Compton at a tournament score of (-1) Martin Kaymer sailed to a comprehensive win over the rest of the field with a solid 8 shot lead.
The U.S. Open Champion has adapted well to dealing with the pressures of being on top for a four day stretch and managed his shots exceptionally. Electing to putt from off the green on more than one of the holes on day 4 may have seemed too conservative but worked out well in the end.
We’re all looking forward to seeing Kaymer’s performance on the events building up to the next major of the year.
